Dear Rancho Elementary Families,
Welcome to the new school year. I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. As many areas throughout the country experienced record setting heat, San Diego, as usual, was truly America’s Finest City. I hope you were able to take advantage of our wonderful weather and the many outdoor activities available to us and spend some fun, relaxing time with your children and family. While it still feels like summer, the new school year is here! Students are back, ready to learn, ask questions, explore new ideas and be with their friends. As always, our goal is to provide for your students, an engaging, academically rigorous school environment where all students learn and succeed.
We have had some new additions to the Rancho Family. Please help us welcome the following new teachers: Ms. Jennifer Flores - 6thgrade, Ms. Elizabeth Lamping - 3rdgrade, Ms. Heidi Meyers - resource teacher, and Ms. Jennifer Carter is our new pre-school special education teacher. They are excited to share with our students their many years of experience and enthusiasm for learning.
Peace Circle will be held on the first Friday of every month followed by Family Reading Friday.Student achievement will be recognized at this time, through our PeaceBuilder of the month awards. Your child will participate in the daily Pledge of Allegiance and PeaceBuilder pledge in his or her classroom. Please be sure your child is at school on time and in their classrooms promptly at7:50 am each day.
RANCHO NEEDS YOU! In these tough economic times, schools need parents to be involved now more than ever. We are always glad to accept any donations of school supplies from parents and the community. Any supplies can be dropped off in the office or in your child’s classroom.
We have several committees that require parent participation to be effective:
PTA:This organization is run by parents for the students of Rancho. The BMX assembly, the holiday shop, movie night and craft night are just a few of the activities PTA sponsored last year. PTA also raises funds to pay for assemblies, supplies prizes for running club and snacks for CST testing. This organization needs parent volunteers to remain viable on campus. Please consider helping PTA make 2012-2013 a wonderful year for all our students.
SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC):School Site Council is one of the more important committee’s on campus. This group of parents and teachers help write the school plan and decide how our yearly funds are to be spent.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE ADVISORY COUNCIL (ELAC): These meetings focus on how we, as a school, can best support our second language students. The school plan, strategies and resources and testing results are just a few of the topics discussed at these informative meetings.
We also invite you to volunteer in the classroom and/or workroom, attend parent conferences, Back to School Night and Open House.
Open communications are a key component in the parent/school partnership. E-mail me at wendy.newmark@lmsvsd.k12.ca.us or contact me at 619-668-5885 or with any questions or concerns you might have. Please take a minute to read all notices sent home by our teachers or office. We also will contact you at home through our automated phone messages, and weekly and monthly bulletins. If you would like to receive information via e-mail, please e-mail leanna.ertz@lmsvsd.k12.ca.us with your e-mail address.
I look forward to sharing this new school year with each of our students and families.
Sincerely,
Wendy Newmark, Principal
