DR. SEUSS COMMUNITY READ - Friday, March 2, 2012 - 9:00 10:50 AM
Loma Elementary will once again celebrate Dr. Seuss Community Read on Friday, March 2nd, 2012. If you would like to participate as a guest reader, donate refreshments and/or volunteer with the preperation, please contact Mari Koudi at (619) 931-9122 or mkoudi.loma@att.net. If you would like to read to your child's classroom, please indicate your child's name and room number so that we may schedule you accordingly.
By now you should have received a green flier that went out the week of February 14 - 17 announcing the Dr. Seuss Community Read event with an attached Random Drawing Entry Form. We encourage all students to turn in their form with a drawing of their original Dr. Seuss type character along with a poem about why their character likes to read.
Students will be encouraged to wear Dr. Seuss costumes or apparel, or red, white and/or black attire. We encourage you to do the same as well. During the 10:15 am - 10:50 am recess, students can pick up a red paper Cat in the Hat bow and/or green paper Sneetches Stars as well as sign a Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss Banner.
Readers need to check in at the school office and then proceed to room 13 by 8:45 am. Dr. Seuss books will be available but if you have your own favorite, please feel free to bring it with you. We have limited Dr. Seuss hats available. If you have one, please bring it with you. Reading will take place in the classrooms from 9:00 am - 10:15 am. Guest readers and staff will be encouraged to return to Room 13 for a Birthday Reception with light refreshments.
PASTA FOR PENNIES - March 5 - 16, 2012
Loma is participating in Pasta for Pennies sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Participating classrooms will bring home individual student collection boxes for donations. We will also be collecting used cell phones. The winning class will earn a classroom pasta party donated by Olive Garden in Grossmont Center. Please help our school support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Movie Nights - March 16, 2012 and April 20, 2012 starts at 6PM
This is a free event! Please join us in the auditorium for a fun family movie. Bring your dinner and enjoy a fun night with your kids and friends.

SPRING SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR March 23 - 30, 2012
Proceeds from the spring book fair go right back to our school library and classrooms in the form of books. Please stop by and support our efforts.
We need volunteers help during the Book Fair Week with set up, clean up and assiting students making book selections and counting their money for purchases.
Our librarian, Mrs. Nunez, currently runs the Scholastic Book Fairs through our Library facility. Effective the 2012-2013 school year, she will no longer be able to be the Chairperson. If you are interested in learning more about our school's Book Fairs, please contact Mrs. Nunez (619) 668-5862 or

If you would like to consider helping in the Library throughout the year there is always something to do like sorting and filing books, covering new books and repairing books. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Nunez.
SIXTH GRADE CAMP - CAMP CUYAMACA Week 1: April 2-6 and Week 2: April 9-13
Chaperones are needed for Sixth Grade Camp. All Chaperones must undergo a background check through the County of Education along with other minimal fees for camp boarding expenses. Please contact Jane Lindquist at

Please note that Camp fees have been reduced from $340 to $300, with final registration on March 1, 2012 at Spring Valley Middle School from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm. Payment can only be made by cash, money order or cashier's check.
KIDS ART SHOWCASE - April 16-20, 2012
Loma Students will be participating in a kids art showcase. Artwork will be displayed the week of April 16-20, 2012.

We will be selling deluxe matted picture frames (supporting Sixth Grade Activiites) our main focus is to have a forum for Loma students to be able to display their artistic talent.

SIXTH GRADE ACTIVITIES - June 11-15, 2012
The Sixth Grade Committee has planned a series of special activities for our outgoing Sixth Graders. These activities include but are not limited to fundraising, cookbook publishing, kickball game (6th Graders vs. Loma Staff), memory book publishing, ice cream social & memorybook signing party, San Diego County fair, Sixth Grade promotion & reception, and Sixth Grade picnic.
Volunteers are needed for all these events. Sixth Grade parents and anyone who would like to help are welcome.
