Claudia Burris, Principal NEW GRANT provides support to parents and children

Dear Avondale Families, In these times of drastic budget cuts, we are SO fortunate to have received a grant administered by San Diego Youth Services that provides a Social Worker (Tammy Bailey), two Counselors (Araceli Delgado and Julie Mastromatteo), and two Parent Leaders (Rae Russell and Martha Gutierrez).  Our Team provides support services to your children and to you, as parents.

For Your Children – The Team and their huge puppets (Dina the Dinosaur, Principal of Dinosaur School, and her young friend Carla) teach our preschool through third grade children good manners, social skills, and positive learning behaviors.  We know that kids learn best when they pay attention in class, complete their work, and play safely during recess.  The Team also works with small groups of children of all grades who need extra support.

For YOU - Yes, we care about YOU, too!  We know that being a parent is the hardest and most important job any of us will ever have.  You constantly nurture your children – giving them your wisdom, your guidance, your energy, your support, and your love.  We’d like to nurture YOU – the most important people in their lives.  We hope you’ll join us as we explore the incredible childhood years through the eyes of parents.  You’ll have the chance to learn about children as you enjoy the company of other parents who, like you, want to raise healthy, well-adjusted, successful children.
