Welcome Back to school Northmont Families!

Here we are back to routine with the summer of 2012 behind us. I trust all of you had a restful and adventurous summer break. Now that we have been in school for over a week, our classrooms are settling into their routines and classroom procedures. A back to school packet went home with your child on the first day of school. The packet was filled with much information and important papers to return. Please be sure all the important documents have been returned to your child’s teacher.

Back to School Night

Please mark your calendars for Thursday, September 6th as this will be our Back to School Night. This is an important parent and teacher event for you to attend. You will have the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, see the classroom, and learn about their academic program for this year. Parent involvement is crucial and a necessary ingredient in school success and achievement. We will begin our event at 5:30 in the auditorium with our fabulous PTA and a special visit by our Safety Patrol. We look forward to seeing you and welcome to all of our new families!!

Student Goals for the Year

The beginning of this year, I met with students in each grade level to communicate our school academic and behavioral goals for this 2012-13 year. I discussed with the students the importance of being on time every day, being prepared and focused, ready to learn. I talked with the students about school rules, behavior expectations and the importance of being a PeaceBuilder every single day. The message was very clear to students that bullying is prohibited.

Pedestrian Safety

Now that you have experienced the traffic flow of arrival and dismissal, you should be familiar with Northmont’s Safety Patrol. Safety Patrol’s task is to ensure pedestrians are safe and that motor vehicles are adhering to the law by driving slow and cautious, coming to a complete stop, dropping off and picking up children in the appropriate zones. The parking lot gate is closed 20 min before and 20 minutes after school for safety reasons as pedestrians are entering or exiting school grounds.

ESS Student Pick-Up

We ask that everyone use extra caution while using the parking lot in the afternoons when picking up your students from ESS.  There are clearly marked red-curbs and No Parking Signs near the fence and gate to the campus. It is imperative that no one parks in these areas.  These areas are an emergency zone only.  You are welcome to park in any available parking spot in the lot after hours.  The lot and drive-way are heavily traveled and we want to insure that everyone remains safe and we avoid any unnecessary accidents by folks parking in inappropriate locations.

Finally, Our Northmont Staff , Teachers and PTA welcome you and we look forward to a fabulous year filled with lots of learning, enrichment, events and your partnership in supporting your child to reach their full potential.

In order for your child to resume taking any medication or an inhaler at school this new school year, a new “Authorization for Medication Administration” from must be filled out by the doctor, per California Education Code, Section 94423.  These forms are available in the school office.

FIRST DAY PACKETS

On Wednesday, August 18th all students received a “First Day Packet” which is stuffed full of important forms and information.  Please take a moment to look through this packet to review and complete any forms that apply to you.  Some of the forms included will be the Federal Lunch Application, school calendar, student photo authorization form, playground rules, school schedule, school compact form and much, much more.  This packet is designed to deliver to you the maximum amount of information in the most efficient format.  We hope that the information provided will help you and your student in having a successful year!
