I am excited to share with you that Parkway has been chosen as a California Distinguished School.  This designation "identifies and honors those schools that have demonstrated educational excellence for all students and progress in narrowing the achievement gap."  We have met the "eligibility criteria including designated federal and state accountabliblity measures based on the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and the Academic Performance Index requirements."

     The process of becoming a Distinguished School required an indepth written application.  Once our application was reviewed by the California Department of Education, Parkway was visited by a Distinguished School Validation Team from the San Diego County Office of Education on February 27.  During the visit, validation team members visited each classroom and also interviewed students, teachers, support staff, parents and community members.  The team examined evidence of student work, assessment data and staff professional development.  The validation team was highly impressed with Parkway's academic program, parent and community support, and overall school climate.

     Parkway received official notification of Distinguished School status on Thursday, April 11.  All of the Parkway staff and students are thrilled.  I want to thank the Parkway teachers, support staff, and parents for their hard work and support to ensure success for every student!
